Business Retention & Expansion/Recruitment (BRE/R) Committee
MISSION
STATEMENT
Business
retention, expansion and recruitment.
PHILOSOPHY
We
will cooperate extensively with GROW Minnesota, private economic
development
associations, the Willmar Area Multicultural Market and any
other organizations who share our
goals.
Within
reason, we will provide for existing industries to expand
the same incentives provided to
recruited industries.

SCHEDULE
Meets
10:30 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at the board
room of Heritage Bank, N.A., Willmar.

2007 GOALS
In cooperation with Grow Minnesota!, Minnesota
Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED),
Ridgewater College, SCORE, Small Business Development Center,
Willmar Area Development Corporation and Willmar Lakes Area
Chamber of Commerce:
1. Expand committee membership to accomplish its 2007 goals
and objectives.
2. Assist in target recruitment of new businesses, especially
technology based, among others.
a. Incorporate new airport opportunities
in recruitment efforts.
b. Incorporate technology task force
efforts.
3. Establish a countywide coordinated business retention visitation
plan.
a. In the first year, visit 30 Willmar
technology-based companies, among others.
b. Establish and implement a visitation
plan with three other communities in the county.
c. Hold annual dialogue session with
health industry.
d. Sponsor a dutch treat Appreciation
& Awards Reception solely by the EDC or in
cooperation
with other economic development agencies.
2007
BRE/R and GROW Minnesota Strategy
1. The EDC will determine company/corporate calls that should
be conducted in Willmar that are in addition to those in the
GROW Minnesota strategy. A suggested figure will be
an additional 30 calls per year.
2. GROW Minnesota will share its call information with the
EDC’s BRE/R Committee.
3. The EDC will delegate a team of BRE/R Committee members
that will assist GROW Minnesota members in performing those
calls.
4. The EDC will initiate BRE/R activities in three greater
Kandiyohi County communities. The EDC will local train the
teams in BRE/R in the calling format and assist them with
initial organization. The EDC will send a member to accompany
the local teams if asked.
5. Continue working closely with the WorkForce Center/DEED,
including responding to referrals of need from that organization.
