Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Services (CABHS) provides comprehensive hospital and community-based mental health services to children and adolescents who have a serious emotional disturbance and whose needs may exceed the capacities of their families and local communities. Services will be child-centered, family-friendly and culturally sensitive.

Children and adolescents may be referred to CABHS by county social workers, corrections, private hospitals, treatment centers, parents and private insurance carriers. Clinical services are covered by most major insurance payers and are eligible for payment by Medical Assistance.

Community Behavioral Health Hospital (CBHH)

State Operated Services, the area of the Minnesota Department of Human Services that provides direct services to people with disabilities, provides acute psychiatric inpatient care for adults in this 16-bed psychiatric hospital.  The hospital employs evidence-based practices, which are methods of treatment that research has demonstrated are effective in supporting people with mental illness in their recovery.  The CBHH is part of a redesign of mental health services in Minnesota.   The hospital is an adult mental health treatment facility in a smaller setting, closer to individuals’ communities, homes and natural supports of family and friends. Along with an array of other community-based mental health services, the 10 CBHHs located in the state of Minnesota have replaced inpatient adult mental health services previously provided on regional treatment center campuses. 

The CBHH provides intensive, multidisciplinary services, including:

• Assessment of mental, social, and physical health by physicians, psychiatrists, clinical nurse specialists, advanced practice nurses, psychologists, clinical social workers and other rehabilitation therapists, as appropriate.
• Development of an individual treatment plan, including medication management and 24-hour nursing care.
• Active mental health treatment and programming, including the integration of important aspects of the Illness Management and Recovery model of care, which is an individualized, person-centered approach that includes the family and community in treatment planning and implementation.
• Individualized discharge planning and collaboration with patients, family members, significant others as well as county social services and mental health case managers for transitioning back to an appropriate setting in the community.

Sheehan Neuroscience and Associates

Sheehan Neuroscience and Associates, in a unique collaboration with St. Cloud Heart Hospital, West Central Radiology Associates, the MinnWest Technology Campus and Kandiyohi County and City of Willmar Economic Development Commission, has opened an exciting new program in Willmar to serve patients with psychiatric disorders involving disturbances of brain function.

The program will offer improved diagnostic services and treatment for disorders, including:

• Children and adolescents: neurodevelopmental disorders including traumatic brain injury, autism, Asperger's Syndrome, fetal alcohol syndrome, Tourette's disorder.
• Adults: traumatic brain injury, post-stroke, seizure disorders, dementia. The patients that are likely to find this service useful include those with complex psychiatric and neuropsychiatric disorders which have been either difficult to diagnose or whose treatment has been unsuccessful. The goal is to improve the diagnosis and treatment through functional brain imaging and neuropsychological testing on patients with these conditions.

The acclaimed team of clinicians includes:

William Sheehan, M.D ., who specializes in functional brain imaging in psychiatry, neurodevelopmental disorders in children and adolescents, and brain injury.
